Speech Evaluation Rubric
CONTENT 25%
- • Resources – the speaker uses various resources that support the argument.
- • Ideas – the speaker expresses the purpose of the speech through the idea.
- • Logic – the speaker gives a meaningful speech which the listeners understand.
- • Creativity – the speaker creates something new or gives new ideas related to the topic she/he is talking about.
ACCURACY 25%
- • Intelligibility – the speaker presents the material in a clear and understandable way.
- • Pronunciation – the speaker pronounces the words correctly. If she/he does so, it means that she/he masters the words she/he is using.
- • Grammar – the speaker uses correct spelling and pronunciation, also the use of right tenses.
- • Appropriate language – the speaker avoids inappropriate slang, racist or sexual language.
DELIVERY 25%
- • Body language – the speaker supports points through gestures, expressions, and body positioning.
- • Voice volume – the speaker’s voice is flexible, moves from one pitch level to another for emphasis. Has variety of rate and volume.
- • Fluency – the speaker speaks easily, clearly, without stopping too much and communicates ideas as naturally as possible.
- • Appearance (or appearance on camera) – the background of the speaker is on point, and it doesn’t affect the speech. The speaker can be clearly seen, from head to shoulders.
ORGANIZATION 25%
- • Coherence and Cohesion – the speaker organizes the material into a coherent structure: introduction, argument, examples, conclusion.
- • Structure – the speech has good structure which makes the speech easier to understand for the audience.
- • Rebuttal – arguments made by the opposite speaker are responded with a rebuttal, giving contrary arguments.
- • Clear message – the overall good organization of the speech helps convey the message clearly.
